Celebrate National Bourbon Month With These Classic Cocktails

Do you love American whiskey? Then the month of September must be your favorite time of year! September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, which gives us a great excuse to enjoy some of our favorite bourbon cocktails. It’s also a good opportunity to expand your horizons and try a few classic bourbon cocktails that you may not have tried in the past. Check out a few of our favorites below!

Old FashionedOld Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is probably the most well-recognized bourbon cocktail of all time. To make one, add 1 tsp. of sugar to a rocks glass and wet it with 2 dashes of Angostura bitters before muddling. Then, add a few large ice cubes along with 2 oz. of bourbon and stir. Top it off with a cherry and an orange peel and enjoy.

Manhattan

The Manhattan is another absolute staple for bourbon lovers. To make one, start by pouring 2 oz. of bourbon, 1 oz. of sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of bitters into a mixing glass along with some ice and stir thoroughly. Then, strain it all into a cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry. It’s a simple, straightforward drink that’s perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day.

Whiskey Sour

Finally, we can’t forget the whiskey sour. It’s one of the simplest bourbon-based drinks to make, and it’s delicious to boot. To create this cocktail, add 2 oz. of bourbon, 0.75 oz. of lemon juice, 0.75 oz. of simple syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake it all up and strain it into a rocks glass with a few ice cubes. Finally, you can garnish the drink with a cherry or orange wedge.
